New Occasions Teach New Duties - Annual Meeting 2010
"For our temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb." Based on Revelation 21:22.
The 2010 Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Conference United Church of Christ will be on June 10 - 13th at Green Lake Conference Center.
Dear Friends in the Wisconsin Conference:
I invite you to join in the fellowship of our wider Church at the 48th Annual Meeting to be held at the Green Lake Conference Center on June 11 13th, 2010.
Our theme this year is "For our temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb" based on Revelation 21:22 with the title of 'New Occasions Teach New Duties". Our bible reference is Revelation 21: 22-25..."22I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25Its gates will never be shut by day-and there will be no night there."
Our focus is twofold: personal spiritual growth and corporate rebirth as church becomes again a counter-cultural expression. Our keynote addresses will be presented by Lillian Daniel and Martin Copenhaver, co-authors of This Odd and Wondrous Calling: The Public and Private Lives of Two Ministers will talk about how we can becoming comfortable talking about our faith and how church decision making can become a faithful process. Jim Griffith, church transformation and new church start coach, will talk about how we can build bridges to communities around our church.
We have a wonderful line-up of workshops focused on our theme and opportunities to explore the Green Lake Conference Center environs. Saturday evening entertainment will be provided by Comedy Sportz Milwaukee.
One of the important items in our business agenda will be the Wisconsin Conference restructuring plan. A workshop, as well as ample time for discussion of the restructuring plan will be provided during business meetings. Also to be considered during our business agenda and a workshop will be a resolution to change our Conference Constitution to align it with the General Synod resolution approving multiple paths to ministry.
During our three days together, there will be times of worship, fellowship, and an opportunity to attend a Faith formation session of interest. There will also be time to visit the exhibits and bookstore and enjoy the Center's beautiful natural setting on the shores of Green Lake.
As moderator, I hope you will join in this gathering of the United Church of Christ in Wisconsin. I look forward to sharing this time with you, and to once again enjoy the joy and fellowship of these enlivening and re-energizing days.
