Lay Communities of Practice Program Expands

The Wisconsin Conference is expanding its Faith and Ministry Lay Communities of Practice

Here are the details:

Faith and Ministry Lay Communities of Practice are facilitated small groups. Each group is limited to 6-8 people and is facilitated by a trained facilitator who is also a lay person within the Wisconsin Conference. We invite and encourage any lay person dedicated to service in their congregation join.

The dates and times for these groups are agreed upon by the group. At its first meeting, each group will discuss its learning and support needs and interests with the facilitator and agree together on the agenda for its monthly meetings. Last year’s groups both agreed to have an agenda that included prayer or some other spiritual practice, discussion of a short article on a relevant ministry topic, individual check-ins, group problem solving and support for ministry and personal spiritual challenges.

We will be holding an in-person orientation retreat at Daycholah Center late October/early November. More information about the retreat will be coming soon. This retreat is required for those who are new to these groups and highly recommended for those who are part of an existing group.

The cost to participate in a Faith and Ministry Lay Community of Practice is $125 for the groups themselves and another $125 for the Orientation Retreat for a total cost of $250. We highly encourage you to seek funding support from your local congregation for your participation in one of these groups and the retreat.
